Welcome!

Self Care is at the Heart of Life-long Health and Healing

Dr. Deanna Cherrone, founder of Natural Health & Healing, is a board certified Internal Medicine physician who has changed the focus of her practice from traditional Internal Medicine to Functional Medicine. “At Natural Health and Healing, I work with patients to determine their health care goals. Emphasis is placed on self care, what that means to each individual, and how best to achieve optimal health.” — Deanna Cherrone, M.D.

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is a science based approach to health care that involves looking at each patient as a whole being with interconnected systems that function best when they are all in balance. The goal of Functional Medicine is to prevent and treat complex chronic disease, as well as, promote optimal health and well being in those that are not ill. Patient assessment is comprehensive and focuses on the biochemical and psychosocial uniqueness of each individual.

True Health is not just the Absence of Disease

The ultimate health care goal is to have the best possible health and vitality with full physical, mental and emotional functioning well into old age.  Termed “healthspan,” healthy aging can be achieved through preventive care, reducing or eliminating symptoms of illness and promoting health and healing. Research has shown that lean body mass is a major predictor of how long and how well you can expect to live. Working with you, Dr. Cherrone will design a treatment plan to help you achieve your ideal lean body mass, reduce your risk of chronic disease and help you extend your “healthspan.”

Your Genes are not your Destiny

While genetic make-up can be an important indicator of future health, research has shown that your genes can be influenced by your experiences, attitudes, beliefs and environment.  The food you eat, the air you breathe, the water you drink, your level of physical activity and toxin exposure, as well as any physical and/or emotional trauma you have experienced all contribute to the level of your health by affecting the way your genes are expressed.

Lifestyle Does make a Difference

Studies suggest that 70 to 90% of all chronic disease is a direct result of lifestyle choices.  This means that even small changes in eating and sleep habits, physical activity and how you manage stress can dramatically influence whether disease, or the symptoms leading to disease, will develop. Incorporating positive lifestyle changes may even allow some patients to reduce or eliminate the use of prescription drugs.

  Achieving Optimal Health

Lifestyle change is now recommended as “first line therapy” for treating many chronic diseases including: heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s. These illnesses, along with symptoms such as chronic pain, fatigue, stress and hormone imbalance can be effectively managed using a therapeutic lifestyle program. Using Functional Medicine testing, Dr. Cherrone can assist you in getting at the root cause of any symptoms or illnesses you may have.

  Getting Started

The first step to achieving optimal health is to choose Dr. Cherrone as your partner on this journey.  She will review your personal and medical history with you and do a complete physical examination.  To help you achieve your ideal lean body mass and extend your healthspan, she will provide you with a body composition analysis.  At the end of the initial visit, which is typically a minimum of two hours, Dr. Cherrone will share her recommendations with you and together, you will develop a customized treatment plan to help you achieve your healthcare goals.  She will guide you through the process, monitoring your progress, providing support and encouragement along the way.
